Progress Report, in which I am brief

The second draft of Petra is complete.

Pretty much.  Except for a few drop-ins.

Recap of 2007 and goals for 2008 are forthcoming.

Happy 2008 to all!

In the words of Greg Lake . . .

I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish, pain, and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear . . .

And here’s a little bonus Christmas cheer from my boy Joe Bonamassa.  Just ‘cuz.

Happy holidays to you and yours!

Progress Report, in which I discover I’ve spoken too soon

So last week I expressed concern that the Petra rewrite was a going little too smoothly.  Spoke too soon, as it turns out.

I got my fifty pages done, plus a little extra, but it was a tougher slog, owing to some important changes and structural tweaks at the end of the second act.   I have at least one more structural change to make–which may involve simply lopping off a couple hundred words–and then should have smoother sailing all the way to the end.

My goal of finishing by year’s end is looking quite attainable, but I’ve discovered I won’t be exactly done by then.  I still need to go back and drop in some important bits of information that I kept meaning to add, but just didn’t get around to, including that angle on my protagonist I mentioned last week.

And then I have to line up some readers.

has already expressed a willingness to take a look at it (thanks, Jay!).  While I’m waiting for the feedback to come in, I need to once again find homes for some stories that have been piling up.  I also need to get back in the critiquing mode for a bit.  I can’t rightly expect folks to crit my work if I’m not returning the favor.  It’s all about the reciprocity, folks.

At some point, I also need to figure out my next project.  I have a short story rewrite to do, and another story’s been gestating.  And then there’s the matter of the next novel.  As of right now, I’ve no idea what it will be.  But I guess I have faith that something will come along.

No updates for Write Club.

Right.  Off to make some holiday preparations . . .
