Progress Report, in which I make an obscure historical reference

A day late, owing to birthday festivities.  Let’s get to it:

Another 5100 words on Petra Released.  Magic Meter says,

Completed the Big Reveal that closes out Act One.  Some bits and pieces of plot are coming, but I can’t shake the nagging feeling that there’s some important element out there that’s waiting for me to discover it.

Maybe that’s just wishful thinking, though.  See, it was at about this point in the drafting of Petra that I caught my first real glimpse of the way it was all going to turn out–a twist that totally surprised me, and at least a few of my beta readers.  I’ve been proceeding with the current novel on the faith that I would have another moment like that.  Now, I’m beginning to wonder if I didn’t just get lucky the last time out.  Maybe the reason I haven’t found that missing element for Petra Released is that there really isn’t one.

If that’s the case . . . well, I don’t know.  I’m in uncharted waters here.  But that’s what first drafts are all about, I suppose.

I still have a bit of sailing to do.  I might find Pitcairn Island yet.

No updates for Write Club.

Onward.
