Progress Report, in which I am tantalized

Notched 4.4K on Wet Work. Here’s Magic Meter, for your edification:

Made goal for the month of October, so I’m feeling pretty good about that. Almost done with Act Two, and feeling good about that, too. Still need to figure out how this ends, though–and I’m not sure how to feel about that. I think this is the farthest I’ve gone into a novel without knowing the ending. Still, there are some tantalizing possibilities that have me . . . well, tantalized.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that I don’t have 30K of story left to tell here. I kinda doubt I even have 20K left to go. I’m guessing I have about 10K of plot remaining. That’s going to put me very much on the short end of marketable length. And I’m reasonably sure this thing is a little bloated, which means it’ll be even shorter when I do the rewrite. This is going to put the novel at a pretty serious disadvantage when the time comes to send it into the big, bad publishing world.

But I guess that’s a problem for another day. Not much I can do about it at this point, anyway. Snippet time:
