You may have heard me talk about a story I sold on my 24th submission. That would be "Ashes, Ashes." It’s always held a special place in my heart. It also features an opening line I rank among my personal best:
The dead woman seeped through the door of Daniel Branigan’s law office just after two o’clock on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
This is a mighty handsome magazine, even if I do say so myself. Enjoy!
Progress Report, in which I reverse the Golden Rule
The last novel critique . . . is done.
It clocked in at nearly 9,000 words. Plus extensive line edits. Hmmm . . . I’m beginning to think I put a little too much work into these things.
The good news is twofold: First, no more critiques for a while, so I get to be a writer again. Second, my editor brain is primed and ready. Now I get to hack and slash at my own work for a bit. Those who have been critiqued by me may take some small comfort in knowing that I’m about to do unto myself what I’ve done unto you. Seems only fair.
No updates for Write Club.
Excuse me, I have to reclaim my life . . .
