Happy Halloween 2010!

As promised, here are a few shots of my chestburster costume, as suggested by Barbara A. Barnett in the Help Matt Pick His Halloween Costume Contest.  Congrats again, Barbara!

Warning: These are not for the squeamish.

We Have a Winner!

We have a winner in the Help Matt Pick His Halloween Costume Contest!  Drumroll, please . . .

Congratulations to Barbara A. Barnett, who suggested an alien facehugger.  As she so correctly pointed out, such a costume would make seeing difficult–to say nothing of eating and drinking.  However, under the contest rules (posted here), I reserve the right to modify the winning entry as I see fit.  After some consideration, the wife and I decided to go with a chestburster instead.  Mmm . . . gory goodness!  Right up my alley.

Barbara wins a free copy of "The Woman Who Hated Halloween," available from Damnation Books.

My thanks to everyone who entered.  Many great suggestions in there, folks . . . and many that were just plain twisted.  Truly, y’all should be trying out some of these outfits yourselves!

Watch this space for pics of the winning costume.  The wife is diligently working on it now, and as always, doing a spectacular job.

Happy Halloween!

Vanishing the Elephant: Writing “Right Before Your Very Eyes”

If you’d like to know how vanishing an elephant can sometimes be easier than writing a story, hie thee to Side-Show Freaks to read about the tortured process that produced "Right Before Your Very Eyes."

"Right Before Your Very Eyes" appears in issue #19 of Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show.
